London, Sep 9 (PTI) Britain’s Emperor Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, greeted a large crowd outside Buckingham Palace in London on Friday. Charles then met Prime Minister Liz Truss for the first time.
The 73-year-old monarch took the throne on Thursday following the death of her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and on her return from Balmoral Castle met a mourning crowd who offered their condolences to the monarch.
The royal couple entered their new home at Buckingham Palace to applause and public enthusiasm. Buckingham Palace said Charles would be formally proclaimed as King at the Coronation Council at St James’s Palace’s State Apartments on Saturday morning.
This will be the first time in British history that the coronation ceremony will be televised. However, Charles has already begun discharging royal duties and during his first formal meeting he will discuss the Queen’s funeral with newly-appointed Prime Minister Truss. The meeting took place just before his first televised address to the nation as monarch.
