Himachal News: Union Govt Nod For Six Ropeway In Himachal Pradesh

Six ropeways of 39 km long will be constructed in Himachal Pradesh. The Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has given in-principle approval for their construction. Two ropeways will be built in district Kangra, one each in Kullu, Chamba, Sirmaur and Bilaspur. About Rs 1,364 crore will be spent on the construction of five ropeways, while the cost of the ropeway construction in Kullu is yet to be decided.

These ropeways being built by the Central Government will be constructed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The Transport Department of the State Government had sent a recommendation to the Union Ministry for the construction of these six ropeways in February 2022. Four ropeways will be built from tourism and religious point of view. Palampur Thachadi Chaugan Glacier Ropeway in district Kangra and Bandla to Luhnu Maidan ropeway in district Bilaspur will be developed from tourism point of view.

The other four ropeways include Bijli Mahadev in Kullu, Bharmour to Bharmani Mata Mandir, Shirgul Mahadev Temple to Churdhar in Sirmaur and Chamunda to Himani Chamunda in district Kangra will be developed from the point of view of religious tourism. With their construction, tourism business will increase in the state and the means of livelihood of the people will also increase.

Explain that the tourism sector contributes seven percent to the economy of Himachal Pradesh. Transport Minister Bikram Thakur said that in-principle approval has been received for the construction of the ropeway. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has told him that the state government will get its letter within a week.
