Sharjah Municipalities Affairs begins afforestation of Al Munthar Reserve by planting 5,000 trees

The Department of Municipal Affairs in Sharjah, in cooperation with the Municipality of Sharjah City and the Municipality of Al Bataeh, organized an initiative for afforestation of the Al Munthar Reserve in the Al Bataeh area, to promote social responsibility in preserving the desert environment and biodiversity, and to encourage agriculture to enhance the civilized and aesthetic appearance of the emirate and achieve environmental sustainability.

This comes in implementation of the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in preserving the environment and wildlife and preserving biodiversity in the emirate.

The Department of Municipal Affairs celebrated the initiative of afforestation of Al Munthar Reserve, in the presence of Sheikh Majid bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Head of the District and Villages Affairs Department, Dr. Sulaiman bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Head of the Municipal Affairs Department, Dr. Eng. Khalifa bin Musabah Al Tunaiji, Head of the Agriculture and Livestock Department, and Chairman of the Municipal Council of the city Sharjah Salem Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of Al Bataeh Municipal Council Muhammad Abdullah bin Halis Al Ketbi, Director General of Sharjah Municipality Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director of Al Bataeh Municipality Abdullah Sultan bin Salma Al Ketbi, directors of municipalities of the cities of the Emirate of Sharjah and a group of officials from government departments, bodies and institutions in Sharjah.

In this context, Dr. Sulaiman bin Sarhan Al Zaabi stressed that this initiative reflects the keenness of the Department of Municipalities Affairs and the strategic partners to achieve the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah aimed at protecting and preserving environmental diversity and spreading community awareness, and great interest in Agriculture, which is considered a priority for municipal work because of its aesthetic, psychological and environmental dimensions, as the emirate is rich in large areas of green areas, trees, shrubs and flowers.

Al Zaabi pointed out that the Al Munthar Reserve is characterized by its attractive desert nature, as it is located on the Sharjah-Mleiha road, and has an area of ​​9.4 square kilometres. annually, noting that more than 5,000 Sidr and Ghaf trees were planted during this initiative.
The head of the Municipal Affairs Department also valued the constructive cooperation and the great efforts made by the Sharjah Municipality and Al-Bataeh Municipality in implementing this initiative, carrying out agricultural work, providing agricultural seedlings, and the accompanying settlement work, providing irrigation networks, and others.

For his part, Director General of Sharjah Municipality Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji confirmed that Sharjah City Municipality pays great attention to agriculture and is keen to implement agricultural projects throughout the year in implementation of the visions and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and to enhance cooperation with various authorities To implement joint agricultural works and projects, the municipality provided qualified staff, tools, equipment, and heavy and light vehicles during its participation in the Al Munthar Protected Forest initiative.

Al Tunaiji explained that the municipality carried out earthwork settlements and provided 2,000 seedlings of Sidr and Ghaf trees from its nurseries, and the necessary irrigation networks and tanks were installed to ensure that irrigation lines and networks were fed around the clock with the required quantities of irrigation water, as these tanks have a storage capacity that guarantees Providing the necessary quantities of irrigation water.

In a related context, the Director of Al Bataeh Municipality, Abdullah Sultan bin Saluma Al Ketbi, explained that this initiative embodies the great interest and joint work to spread awareness and culture of preserving the environment, promoting the culture of volunteering and bearing social responsibility, as the success of this initiative reflects the great interest and continuous cooperation between the various government agencies that work. Within a joint work system, enhancing the civilized and aesthetic appearance of the Emirate, as well as the widespread interest in natural reserves and spreading the green area.

Al Ketbi praised the efforts made by the Department of Municipal Affairs and the Municipality of Sharjah City to contribute to the success of this initiative, increase the number of trees in the Al Munthar Reserve, and enhance continuous cooperation with Al Bataeh Municipality, especially in implementing agricultural projects.
