IND W vs ENG W: England blown up in the storm of Mandhana and Harmanpreet, India won the match by 7 wickets, 1-0 lead in the series

Hov: After the excellent performance of the bowlers, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated England by seven wickets in the first one-day match with the opening batsmen with a bang. With this win, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing England’s target of 227, India defeated Smriti (91 runs in 99 balls, 10 fours, one six), Harmanpreet (74 not out in 94 balls, seven fours, one six) and wicketkeeper-batsman Yastika Bhatia (47 balls). 50 runs, eight fours, one six) scored an easy victory at 232 for three with 34 balls to spare.

Smriti shared a 96 for the second wicket with Yastika and 99 runs for the third wicket with captain Harmanpreet to help India chase down the target. Earlier, veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami impressed in the first match of their final ODI series but England women’s team managed to score 226 for seven thanks to a good performance from the lower middle order batsmen. Ellis Davidson-Richards (50 not out off 61 balls), Danny Watt (43 off 50 balls), and Sophie Ecclestone (31) made remarkable contributions for England. Charlie Dean finally scored an unbeaten 24 off 21 balls.

India recovered after Shefali’s wicket

Chasing the target, India had a poor start and the team lost the wicket of Shefali Verma (01) in the second over itself, who was caught by Kate Cross to Charlie Dean. Despite losing early wickets, Smriti and Yastika took an aggressive approach.

Yastika opened the account with a four on this Wong while Smriti hit two consecutive fours on the cross. Both hit two more fours each on Wong. Smriti welcomed Davidson-Richards with two fours while Yastika hit sixes and fours off their successive deliveries. Yastika completed her half-century in just 45 balls with a four off Dean but was bowled a ball later by the off-spinner.

At this time the team’s score was 99 runs in the 17th over. Smriti then found a good partner in the form of captain Harmanpreet. Smriti completed her half-century in 61 balls with a four on Dean. Both took the team’s score past 150 runs in 29 overs. Smriti hit a six on Wong but the Davidson-Richards coach was caught by the cross. India needed 30 runs in 13.3 overs to win this time. Harmanpreet completed her half-century in 80 balls with a run off the cross. He took India to victory by hitting two fours at Ecclestone and then a six off Davidson-Richards.

Jhulan Goswami was economical in bowling

Harleen Deol remained unbeaten on six runs. Earlier, India’s 39-year-old veteran Jhulan took one wicket for just 20 runs in 10 overs and during this time bowled 42 dot balls (balls not scored). Deepti Sharma played well with him, taking two wickets for 33 runs. Jhulan did not hit a single boundary or six and he lbw to veteran opener Tammy Beaumont (07).

Batting on the wicket is not easy and the ball is not coming easily on the bat and in such a situation Harmanpreet won the toss and decided to bowl. Fast bowler Meghna Singh (1 for 42 runs in eight overs) got second opener Emma Lamb (12) caught by Yastika on a short ball. After this, Jhulan along with two spinners Deepti and Rajeshwari Gaikwad (1 for 40) curbed the run rate.

However, apart from Meghna, Sneh Rana (1 for 45 in six overs) and Pooja Vastrakar (no wicket for 20 in two overs) proved costly as the hosts posted a total of 220-plus in the end. The Indian team will be a bit disappointed as England’s score was 128 for six in the 34th over but the number seven, eighth and ninth batsmen added more than 100 runs to take the team to a challenging score. Davidson-Richards shared an unbeaten 49-run partnership with Ecclestone for 50 for the seventh wicket and Dean for the eighth wicket.
