An ancient idol was stolen from a temple in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district. The police gave this information on Friday. An official said that unidentified persons entered the Bhanwar Ganesh temple in Pali village of Masturi village on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday and stole the idol.
Mussoorie police station in-charge Prakash Kant said that the miscreants took the temple priest Mahesh Ram Kewat hostage and snatched the keys of the premises from him. They said that they stole an ancient idol made of granite from the sanctum sanctorum of the temple and fled.
The idol was reportedly over 100 years old. Villagers, along with police dog squad and forensic team reached the spot, the official said, adding that efforts were on to nab the accused.
