Terrorists Tracked Down With Surveillance Equipment In Uri, Dangerous Intention To Meet China-made Rifle M16 – Uri Infiltration

New-tech surveillance equipment and weapons, including aerial and ground sensors, were used to trace and kill three terrorists during an anti-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Uri sector on Thursday. In Baramulla, the army gave this information to the media on Friday. A Chinese-made M-16 assault rifle has been recovered from the three terrorists. The army has described the seizure as unusual. Speaking to reporters, Major General Ajay Chandpuri, General Officer Commanding, 19 Infantry Division, said that the operation was launched after credible inputs from Military Intelligence, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army sources.

We foiled an infiltration attempt from PoK in Kamalkot area of Uri sector in which three foreign terrorists were gunned down and arms and ammunition were recovered. The area where the operation was conducted was extremely challenging. It had an area of dense bushes and forest. The weather was very foggy with heavy rain and mines were dotted all over the area. Colonel Raghav, the commanding officer (CO) of 8 Rashtriya Rifles, which carried out the operation, said that security forces, including BSF personnel deployed along the LoC in the sector, noticed suspicious movements in the area on Wednesday.

Based on that, Operation Mrityunjay was started. Small ambush parties and surveillance units were involved in the operation. Our teams could not detect the enemy surveillance equipment and surveillance system. Our teams were deployed at this location for more than 25 hours and on August 25 at 7.55 am the teams saw the terrorists crossing the Line of Control. We have tracked the movements of terrorists using latest sensor technology and surveillance equipment.

He said that at around 8.45 am on Thursday, the terrorists came 40-50 meters away from the ambush parties, who opened fire on them and in a brief exchange of about 15 minutes, the three Pakistani terrorists were gunned down. Colonel Raghav said that the search operation is still going on in the area. Two AK-series weapons, a Chinese M-16 weapon and their ammunition and other items have been recovered.

Terrorists could not be identified

Col Raghav said that it has also been learned that these terrorists were prepared to infiltrate and also indicate that they had undergone formal military training. The CO said that the latest surveillance equipment and weapons were put to optimum use during the operation. The GOC said that the slain terrorists did not have any documents from which their identity could be ascertained. Our assessment is that before pushing these terrorists to infiltrate, their ID was snatched from them and they did not have any ID.
